This thread records changes to the functionality of the site, including new features and changed features. Changes to policy, rules, or moderation are in >>1014. You can discuss all changes in >>1134.

No. 1799

I've noticed that linked or embedded Youtube videos sometimes get deleted by their owners after they're posted here.

To help people save copies of videos, I've added a [DL] link under every Youtube embed (unless the embed is in the thread OP), and a [DL] link to the right of every Youtube link upon hovering, similar to the [Archived Copy] link.

If you use Chrome, clicking this should automatically download the video. Firefox does not allow cross-site downloads, so you will either have to right click the link and select "Save Link As", or click the link and press Ctrl+S after it loads.

No. 1811

After seeing several instances of posters deleting content many days or weeks after they posted it, I've decided to add a maximum time limit for deleting things.

This change is in effect now and applies retroactively.

After 4 hours have passed since making a post, you will be unable to delete the post. After 30 minutes have passed since making a thread, you will be unable to delete the thread.

Do not contact staff asking us to delete your thread or post after this time limit has passed, unless it violates one of the global rules. Do not make a post or send a report or email asking me to delete your thread or post.

There has never been a minimum wait time to delete things, and there still isn't one. That is, you can delete something immediately after you post it, if you want.

If you have any issues or questions with this, please use >>1134.

lolcow is forever

Last night, we held a pretty productive chat in https://chat.lolcow.farm/r/meta about site policies and what sort of threads belong in /snow/. I may do another one tonight.

I'd like to start doing these once every 1 or 2 weeks. Some chats may have specific topics. Otherwise, you can just ask me general questions about the site and discuss the state of it and its future.

I will also try to post transcripts for each chat, possibly with some off-topic discussion removed, for people who are unable to join at that time. Note that a lot of off-topic discussion is still in these transcripts, so apologies if you have to sift through a lot of irrelevant material.

No. 1229

just curious, why does it stop halfway through the chat?
i'm not well-versed in pastebin, is there more or is that all there is?

No. 1232

>>1229
I cut out everything after that point in the chat, because I consider it too off-topic. No real discussion of moving threads happened after then.

No. 1249

I plan on holding a town hall once every Wednesday evening, Eastern time. Next one will be tomorrow, September 23.

No. 1466

Will you continue to update the chatlogs for those of us who aren't online at the time?

No. 1784

We have stopped doing these once per week. I usually announce them 2 days in advance, and just do them when I feel like it, or if something important is going on. I may go back to a standard schedule soon.

Still deciding on the best way to handle chat logs.

This thread discusses the current social fabric of lolcow; where it's going, where we want it to go and how to take it in that direction. Also how to improve our farming skills as a cohesive whole.

We propose fixing "social" issues here, especially in curing the cancer that is killing the farm.

I think IDs should be implemented on /b/ and /g/ but not /pt/ or /snow/.

I think it would be exciting if we could take all the pedophile themed thread derailing posts and put them in their own thread, devoid of context just like a trashbin for the bickering.

holy shit I posted this seriously but I know it's dumb, next thing I know 4cham has /trash/, beautiful, I'm glad someone out there understands me

The /pol/ thread on /b/ got merged into another (in my opinion only slightly related) thread.

Why did this happen? Is this something we should grow to expect? I just find it illogical, is all.

Does this mean I can go spam the other thread with /pol/ images? Because that's what the initial thread which got locked was for…

No. 1178

At this time, I would prefer there to be only one racially charged thread in /b/. Previously the policy was two at a time, but due to recent events, one makes more sense.

You can spam the thread with whatever you like, because that's what it was turning into.

Just wonderin - how come so much heavy moderation over here? Has shit posting been a serious problem in the past?

What about a 24hr temp ban for any IPs that have directly accessed cow from /r9k/ (or 8chan /b/) and have not previously posted anything on here?

It should quell the number of people finding it through "raid this femboard" threads, and if they actually have good intentions, they can just wait a day. Or would that be too extreme?

No. 799[Reply]

There has recently been an uptick in /pt/ threads which many members of the community find to be lacking the criteria for "lolcow"ness. Often this is because the OP is not descriptive or clear enough in demonstrating that someone is a lolcow. In other cases, when they are descriptive, many people disagree that they're actually a lolcow.

Here are a few threads which have been moved to /b/:

>>>/pt/112001
>>>/pt/110838
>>>/pt/111652
>>>/pt/116793
>>>/pt/117423
>>>/pt/115068

>>>/pt/116632 is borderline, and has not (yet) been moved.

In response to this, I adjusted the guidelines for /pt/ and added this paragraph:

>If you are posting a new thread about someone who isn't widely known, and there are no previous threads about this person, include an explanation in the OP or immediate follow-up posts as to why you consider them to be a lolcow. You should include links, pictures, videos, screenshots, quotes, or other evidence. Threads that do not obey this may be moved to /b/.

A few questions I would like input on:

1. Would it be worthwhile creating a new board, something in between /b/ and /pt/, for threads about specific people which do not fit in /pt/? Or is /b/ fine by itself?
2. The rules do not stipulate what qualities really constitute a lolcow. Would it be worthwhile coming up with a list of very specific criteria for who/what is deserving of a /pt/ thread?
3. In borderline cases, how should thread moderation decisions be handled, if at all? Some form of voting would be nice, but voting is kind of impractical on anonymous imageboards. One option could be increasing the number of volunteer staff and having the volunteers cast votes, but this is also susceptible to bias and potential drama. The current procedure is simply me making the sole decision.

Why was Fahr's thread deleted? It met all the criteria, and not only that but she's definitely a cow. If we deleted everyone who just asked for it, we'd have like 3 threads.

The thread was deleted by the thread owner. Apparently accidentally, according to them.

This thread is for discussing proposed changes.

I will update posts regularly to describe some potential proposed changes.

These are just ideas, and I am only looking for feedback. These will not necessarily ever be implemented, or if they are, they may change drastically before they are implemented. These are not things I am definitely planning to do, just changes I've been thinking about.

This is a work in progress. Posts may be edited regularly.

Please offer your thoughts on all of these proposals by replying to this thread.

Also, more about the self-posting moderation: I think it's pretty unnecessary overall, since we only have this problem on Aly's thread. You(admin) could just put a notice on Aly's OP saying that excessive self-posting isn't allowed and is considered derailment.

IDs when?

No. 1133

>>1112
At this time I'm leaning towards not adding them unless I open up a new board. In which case, one board might have IDs added.

A nice, cosy, official banner thread to submit your new banners for the benefit and expansion of the website.

Banners must be 300x100

Banners should mention the site directly or indirectly. "lolcow.farm" written, a picture of a cow, etc.

Submitting some OC.

No. 1028

In the survey you mentioned the possibility of splitting /pt/ into two. With the new rule about having to justify posting someone new in /pt/, maybe there could be two separate boards: one for established lolcows and one for new/potential ones, to see if there's interest in them? I think that might be a better solution than moving them to /b/

No. 1031

>>1028

I was initially against the idea of splitting /pt/, but this really is a very good idea.

It means if you're looking for a specific type of drama no more sifting through page after page after page of lesser known cows to find the juicy stuff, and if you're interesting in new drama you can simply head over to the other board.

I want to make a request though.
If the main drama board is /pt/, please for the love of god name the lesser cow board /kiki/.

No. 1034

>>1028
I have been considering this for many weeks now and debating it with the rest of the staff.

The big problem is that there is potential for disagreement and drama when staff move threads which are in a gray area. If staff think a thread should be moved but 30 posters think it should stay, they may not be happy with staff essentially decreeing "this is a shitty thread and we don't care if you like it and think the person is a lolcow".

Of course, the thread will still exist, but it'll be surrounded by much shittier threads in a board with less rule enforcement.

I'm still pretty undecided, especially since most people are fine with just hiding threads.

Please use this board for all meta-discussion: questions, suggestions, and discussions regarding lolcow.farm itself.

Feel free to make a new thread to discuss a specific issue if you want.

Rules here are the same as the other boards, except that off-topic posts will be moderated more strictly than in /pt/.
